I made a video for the cute little song I made when I was in Wilcannia last year with Sarah from Shopfront. Working from  Wilcannia Central School and Wings Drop In Centre, I helped about 10 kids aged 8 to 14 write their own verses and the chorus. All the video footage was recorded while we weren’t recording vocals! The beat is Teach Me How To Dougie by Cali Swag District.

Every Monday in 2010 Heaps Decent ran a music class for the students at Key College. Key College is an independent high school in Redfern funded by Youth Off The Streets. We’ve been been working with Key College since 2008 and every year we get to make a selection of great new tracks with some talented young people.

Last year we set up a great program where, over a school term, Nina helped each student at Key write, produce and record their own song in the style of their choice. Some students wrote rap songs, complete with their own self-produced beats while others created new styles of club music with their productions.

You can listen to all of the awesome, original songs on our Soundcloud page or listen to them below in this great mix that Nina put together.

Key College Tracks 2010 Mix by Heaps Decent

The first school term of 2011 is just a few weeks away and Heaps Decent is excited to get back in the Key College studio, meet this year’s new students and make some new music!

FREE DOWNLOAD: THE ASTON SHUFFLE’S REMIX OF ‘LATE NIGHT’

It’s day 2 of our remix a day frenzy! Yesterday we gave away the super funky Toni Toni Lee remix of ‘Miimali Gang Stars’. Today we’re gonna take the tempo up a bit….

This is the remix that the lovely fellas The Aston Shuffle did of another Detours and Destinations track, ‘Late Night’, by the girls over at Miimali Aborginal Youth Services. This once chilled out Nina Las Vegas produced tune has been turned into a fast steppin’ synthy monster of a club hit! We think this might be the first Aston Shuffle song that you can actually shuffle to!

Download this MONSTER from the Soundcloud link above and come back tomorrow for our final Detours & Destinations remix, Pablo Calamari’s remix of ‘We’re Going To Lomandra’!

Best believe you’ll be hearing all these remixes and more tomorrow night at our HEAPS DECENT SPRING PARTY! Make sure you buy your tickets HERE.

Heaps Decent spent the day recording with Paige Lagettie last week. Paige wrote “Don’t Look Down”, the song that won the Schools Reconciliation Challenge run by the New South Wales Reconciliation Council this year.

The song you can hear was produced by Adam Bozzetto for Heaps Decent. You’ll be able to hear the finished song later this week, we’re really proud of Paige for making it sound so great!

Thanks to Paige and her Dad for coming to record with us, to Gadigal for providing us with somewhere to record, to Ben for engineering, to Adam Bozzetto for the great beat and to Julian and Leanne from NSW Reconciliation Council for putting the awesome project together!

[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]

Left to right: Jacob (DJ Jay Tee), Diplo, Naomi (MC Nay), Maya, Joel (Weno) and Santana.

Here’s something we didn’t post last week, which is stupid because it’s super cool.

When The Last Kinection came into the Gadigal Studios for a session with Diplo, Joel (Weno) brought the whole family in.

Music is obviously in their blood, as it turns out Maya (pictured second from the right) is a rapper like her dad. Apparently the session was private, as Maya took to the mic alone in Joel’s studio and free-styled for about 15 minutes.

Listen to Maya’s track ‘Dance’ (originally Fat Joe’s ‘Make It Rain’) and love it as much as we do!
